Family Reunion to Departure Day

At the time of this writing, we are just a couple of hours away from our departure for Ukraine. We will leave for the airport in a couple of hours, and we just wanted to give you a quick report on what has happened since we last wrote.
The past week + we have enjoyed great family reunion at Katherine's parent's house in San Clemente, CA. With visits to the beach, Disneyland, special celebrations honoring the Bechtle's forty years of marriage, and just being together, we enjoyed a week "full" in many ways. A highlight was certainly the family devotional times each day, when each family unit shared some thoughts from scripture, updated everyone what was going on in their lives, asked for prayer in specific areas, and then ended in prayer time. It really helped to draw us all closer to one another, and helped to keep us focused (which proved somewhat of a challenge at times, having had 4 children age six, and under to keep us entertained throughout the week). Abbie particularly enjoyed getting to know "my cousins."
With the reunion ending on Wednesday, we had a full day and a half to prepare for our trip to Ukraine. Although we tried to plan ahead, we managed to spend all day yesterday (into the wee hours of this morning), making last minute purchases, tying up loose ends, and packing. Please pray that amidst all the hustle and bustle, we will be able to keep our focus and composure - that why we are going will remain constantly in the forefront of our thoughts (II Corinthians 5:20).
Our flight departs L.A. at 6:40 p.m. this evening, flying to Frankfurt, Germany, where we will have a stopover. We will head on to Kyiv on Sunday morning, after having a short visit with some of Scott's dear friends who moved from Ukraine to Germany a number of years ago. Please keep our travels in your prayers this weekend.
God willing our next posting will come from Ukraine! Thanks for checking in on this site ... and we hope that it will help to keep us "connected" while we are abroad.

Dear Scott, Katherine & Abbie,
On the way already...we pray you have safe travels and that you can accomplish your purpose in Kiev -- that the Lord will give you guidance and encouragement as you need it -- and wisdom. I know how much it means to you all to be going. May you have many happy reunions, Scott, and may K & A receive showers of blessings through this service as well. Love to Lucy if you get to see her. I just finally got my email back up since hooking up the new ocmputer, so didn't get to send you that email address before you went. The one I have is lucy@uphtc.relc.com. I will also drop her a note so that she will be looking for you if she isn't out of town. This is a great idea, by the way. Love the pictures. Bechtles all look great -- each and every one. Not trying to rush your work there at all, but we DO look forward to your NC trip that follows right on its heels. May God keep you in His loving care -- always. We love you lots, Mama & Papa B -- AKA Grandmama & Grandaddy
I miss you so much already! I've been praying for a good plane ride for you (translation: that Abbie sleeps a lot!)
We love you so much!
Scott, Katherine, and Abbie,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to call before you left. We just returned home from our two weeks away (beach trip with Cummings' Clan and Sycamore View Church Camp). Everyone is tired but well. We'll be praying for your safety and success. We'll check the blog regularly to keep posted on you.
All our love,
Philip, Debbie, Eric, Sam, and Andrew
P.S. Any chance at a Memphis layover on the return home?
Miss you already. Give a big kiss from Nanny Shirley to Abbie and tell her who loves her soooo. We are all very proud of your little family and pray for you to do God's work in the Ukrane. We know Abbie will do whatever she can to get to know the people and they will love her too. Love and hugs, Lee and Shirley
Dear Scott and Katherine (Abby too),
We had a nice time seeing you at the reunion and will be praying for you all as you serve the Lord on this trip.
Love to all of you,
The Evanston Family
